TWO years ago, when we were in lockdown, I read of the death of Hugh Millar Peskett.
I cut out and kept the notice as my interest had been aroused by the fact that, sometime earlier, in an antique shop, I had bought a smart “Gladstone bag” on the inside of which was written:
Col. Peskett
Hurstpierpoint
Sussex (1870)
in the most beautiful hand!
I should love to know if any reader might know, for example, of a descendant or family member to whom this might mean the great, great, great etc… and would be very happy to return the bag to its rightful descendant!
