A NINE-PIECE brass band has released new music ready for their performance at Boomtown, near Winchester.

In celebration of festival season, The Brass Funkeys is releasing a series of singles that make up their new EP (extended play record) ‘More Is More’.

The UK brass band will be bringing their new repertoire to Boomtown festival at Matterley Estate in the South Downs National Park.

More Is More explores a new concept for the collective. Trombone player Tom Green said: “We have so many diverse personalities and interests within the collective, we wanted to distil all these influences onto an EP that pushes the boundaries of what people think of as brass band music, while still holding true to its New Orleans roots."

After the cancellation of dozens of live dates in 2020, The Brass Funkeys challenged themselves to release four EPs to record their journey. ‘Crunch’ (2020), showcases original material exploring a new genre: #ThrashBrass, while ‘Live at Cambridge Junction’ (2021) features their high-energy stage show. ‘Ruin’ (2021) celebrates bold brass-led covers, from girl band hits to heavy metal headbangers and hip-hop classics. The latest EP is yet to be released.

Formed in 2011, The Brass Funkeys bring together the individual styles of each of the nine members whilst tributing their New Orleans brass band roots.

The band, esteemed by the likes of James Morrison and Vice Magazine, has been playing the club and festival circuits in the UK and Europe for over 10 years. This summer, the brass collective has already performed at Glastonbury, Wilderness Festival and the Secret Garden Party ahead of their next gig at Boomtown.

The Brass Funkeys will be playing near Winchester at Boomtown on Thursday, August 11.

The band is made up of:

Trumpets played by Jack Banjo Courtney, Rob Smith and Rob Slater.

Drums played by Harpal Mudhar.
