Resident Shahivdar Rahman, 18, said: "He got up onto a roof and was chucking bricks. He then ran across The Avenue."

Elizabeth, whose car has been damaged during the incident added: "I was angry. Why do people think they have the right to destroy other people's possessions."

Another on looker, Liam, was on his way home when the incident took place and was told by officers to walk around the cordon.

He said: "I saw the police cordon up. I didn't see anyone on the roof but I did see bricks flying and smashing into the cars.

"That happened for about an hour before he then jumped off the roof and ran at me with the tile. He ran across The Avenue with about 25 officers behind him.

"They chased him across the road at around 7pm. It was scary."
