A MILITARY Museum has opened its doors for a month-long exhibition aimed to showcase their history and present work.

The Gurkha Museum in Winchester has welcomed the public to an exhibition throughout August, arranged to showcase how Gurkhas have helped support and aid travel agencies in peacetime across the world.

Off the Battlefield, on the Scene, is an exhibition running from Monday, August 1 until Wednesday, August 31 and aims to give the public insight into the history of the Gurkha soldiers, showcasing the reasons as to why they are known as "The Bravest of the Brave".

Gurkha Museum director, Dr Daren Bowyer said: “For over 200 years, Gurkha soldiers, recruited from Nepal, have loyally served this country, many making the ultimate sacrifice. The Gurkha Museum preserves the heritage of the Brigade of Gurkhas and tells this story to the British public.

"This exhibition showcases the remarkable range of support that Gurkhas and the wider military give to the community at times of need. From supporting the UK’s Covid-19 response to anti-poaching patrols in Kenya, this exhibition will highlight their vital roles, serving the country, away from the battlefield.”

Entry to the exhibition is free with admission to the museum. If you are unable to make it to the Museum the exhibition will be available online at thegurkhamuseum.co.uk from Thursday, September 1.
