A CLUB for professional people has marked its 50th anniversary.

On July 14, Winchester and District Probus Club members started their celebrations for their 50th year.

A summer lunch was held in the Gurkha Museum at Peninsular Barracks.

Winchester Probus president Barrie Brinkman welcomed guests and toasted the club.

The club was founded in 1972 and is one of the oldest probus clubs in the district. The club’s aim is to provide friendship and fellowship and is open to all professional and business men who are fully or partly retired.

Meetings are held every second Thursday of the month in Winchester with lunch preceded by a talk on a variety of topics. The months of January and July are reserved for lunch with partners and the widows of former members.

There are also visits to places of interest, both locally and further afield

Winchester Probus activities include: theatre visits for members and their partners, walks around Winchester, visits for members and their partners to interesting places, informal weekly Thursday morning meetings of members at the Bell Inn, St Cross Road, to discuss any topic of interest and team entries to local competitions.

The club is always looking for new members who will be made very welcome; the website gives details of how to join Winchester and District Probus Club. Contact membership secretary, David Barber, at cloverhillfarm.barber@gmail.com.
