IT WAS with great dismay that I heard recently of the forthcoming closing of the G.E.T. charity bookshop in the Brooks Centre.

Apparently the landlord requires the premises back for a new tenant Orange theory fitness gym so the bookshop will have to vacate in the next few weeks.

This is sad news for the charity which has had the use of the vacant shop for about the last year.

The manager Marc Otter and his team of volunteers have put a lot of hard work, effort and time to make this venture a thriving success in the aim of promoting literacy. They have created a friendly haven for book lovers of all ages from oldies like myself down to tiny tots with a wide stock. As a regular user and supporter of this facility I would like them to know that their accomplishment is much appreciated and valued by many people.

I would also like to appeal to the folk of the area that if anyone knows of a vacant facility that would be suitable and available to let the charity know or tell the shop manager so that this project could rise again like a phoenix in future in Winchester.
