A COFFEE morning raised nearly £400 for a good cause.

Home-Start Winchester held a charity fundraising event at Rick Stein’s Winchester High Street restaurant last week.

“The Rick Stein team were helpfulness personified,” said Home-Start Winchester’s events chairman, Chrissie Barlow.

“It is a very generous gesture on their behalf and they bent over backwards to make everyone feel welcome.

“We must raise over 90 per cent of our income every year to continue our work in and around the city, which is why we are so appreciative of this kind gesture."

The charity’s volunteers support on average 75 families a year, and will go into a family’s home on a regular basis for six months to a year to provide much needed help, friendship, advice and support during those vital years when children are young.
