A PROFESSIONAL artist from Hampshire is running summer holiday art classes, boosting creativity and reducing anxiety in children.

Paula Still, from Chandler's Ford, is welcoming children aged eight to 16-years-old to her garden studio in Hiltingbury this August.

Classes are tailored to the different age groups with a step-by-step guide on how to use materials, mix colours and construct a picture, led by an award-winning artist.

Paula, 48, said: “My classes are unique because they simplify the process of generating a picture, in many mediums, in an accessible way. They are highly interactive, informal and friendly and, regardless of age and ability, students are immediately rewarded with inspiring results.”

The commissioned artist has over ten years of experience running art workshops for children and adults as well as teaching art in schools and tutoring one-to-one GCSE art.

Parent Raz Wright said: “Each week I’m excited to see what Amaya’s going to bring home. To be honest we’ve been totally blown away by the quality and diversity of the artwork she’s producing each week.”

The local artist is giving children the chance to use different mediums techniques including acrylic paint, pencil, charcoal, pastels and palette knives.

Paula added: “I’m hoping to encourage more children to enjoy art, enjoy being creative and explore their artistic potential. My classes are tailored to give children confidence and worry less about sticking between the lines. My classes also help children who have anxiety issues and other mental health issues.”

Originally from Aberdeen, Scotland, Paula achieved a Royal Scottish Academy award for a student exhibition.

Now, work by the local artist can be seen in an exhibit at Hillier Gardens. Paula takes inspiration from walking in the countryside, the sea and sailing painting woodland scenes and seascapes as portrait commissions of people and pets.

Holiday sessions at Paula’s back garden studio will be on 10am-12pm for ages 8-11 and 2-4pm for ages 12-16 on August 8 to 12, August 17 to 18 and August 22 to 23.
