A DRINK driver caught near Alresford has been banned from the road for 14 months.

Mathew Newman, 28, of The Dene, Ropley, was stopped by the police on May 7 on the B3047 Bishop's Sutton Road, near Bishop's Sutton, a court heard.

When tested his alcohol reading was 126 micrograms per 100 millilitres of blood when the legal limit is 85. He admitted the charge.

Basingstoke Magistrates Court on July 19 imposed the 14-month ban as well as a £461 fine, £85 costs and a £46 victim surcharge. The penalties must be paid by August 2.

The disqualification will be cut by 14 weeks if Newman passes a driving course by April 12 2023.
