A YOUNG Winchester driver has been slapped with six penalty points after he was found guilty of a causing a head-on collision.

Basingstoke magistrates heard that on November 18, 2020, Liam Woods of Highcliffe Road, drove a Honda Civic on Wales Street without due care and attention.

Woods, who was 18 at the time, then crashed into an oncoming vehicle 'due to the manner of his driving'. He was convicted of the offence in June last year.

Sentencing the 20-year-old on Monday, July 18, the bench imposed an £80 fine and further ordered him to pay £85 in costs and a £34 surcharge to fund victim services. He has until August 15 to pay the total sum of £199. Woods' driving record was also endorsed with six penalty points.

Magistrates said his guilty plea was taken into account while imposing the sentence.
