PLANS have been approved for a replacement roof on a city councillor's house.

The proposal is for the replacement of the pitched roof, felt and battens and of concrete tiles with slate at the property in Cheriton Road.

It was brought before Winchester City Council's planning committee because it was submitted by David Ferguson, husband of Cllr Paula Ferguson.

In the officer's report, it said: “The development is recommended for permission as it is considered that it will have a positive impact on the character of the area and would not harm neighbouring residential amenity.”

Cllr Frank Pearson said: “It's sensible proposal. If there's a problem with the roof, replace it. If we turn this down, it would be quite perverse.”

The committee approved the plan unanimously.
