THE roof of a house in Chandler's Ford has been damaged by fire.

Firefighters were called out to tackle the blaze in Brownhill Road just after 3pm on Saturday, July 16.

Multiple fire engines were on scene as crews wore breathing apparatus and used jets and the aerial ladder to tackle the fire.

The flames were contained to the roof and first floor of the detached property and did not spread anywhere else.

The occupants had self-evacuated but the whole house was affected by fire and water damage.

Nearby residents were urged to keep their windows and doors shut to avoid breathing in smoke and motorists were asked to avoid the area.

Firefighters carried out community safety at neighbouring properties before the incident was scaled down at 6.20pm.
