Two young classical singers, George Butler (bass) and Tesni Jones (soprano), accompanied by Dr Nick Salwey (Winchester College), will sing well known songs by Vaughn Williams, Gershwin, Puccini and others on Saturday July 16 from 7pm.

Tesni and George both studied at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. George, who grew up in Hyde, has recently been appointed a lay clerk at St John’s College in Cambridge.

He has performed in the chorus of operas including Peter Grimes with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. Tesni comes from Wales and made her 2019 opera debut as a chorus member in The Pilgrim’s Progress (Vaughn Williams), followed by roles in the RNCM’s 2020 production of The Cunning Little Vixen (Janáĉek).

The concert is a fundraising event to help develop St Bartholomew’s Church. This beautiful historic church in the heart of Hyde holds a significant place in Winchester’s heritage as the base for the commemoration of King Alfred the Great, as well as being the parish church for Hyde and Abbotts Barton. There is much work to be done to repair and refurbish the church building and concert goers are asked to give generously and help us to breathe new life into St. Bartholomew’s.

The minimum suggested donation for the concert is £10 per person. Refreshments will be available in the church grounds from 6.15pm, for which donations will also be gratefully received.
