Romsey's MP has pledged her allegiance to a candidate in the Conservative party leadership contest.

Caroline Nokes was one of the first MPs to submit a letter of no confidence in Boris Johnson's leadership.

When the Advertiser asked Ms Nokes who she would be supporting, she said: “I was impressed with Penny Mordaunt's campaign launch yesterday and she has the momentum behind her campaign. So I have publicly backed her today.”

The MP for Portsmouth North is one of six still in the running. The five others are: Rishi Sunak, Kemi Badenoch, Tom Tugendhat, Suella Braverman and Liz Truss.

The new Prime Minister will be announced on September 5.
