Proud parents, families and the Mayor of Winchester gathered around as students graduating from Sparsholt University Centre attend their graduation ceremony at Winchester Cathedral earlier today.

The graduation ceremony started at 11.30am this morning until 12.30pm, where graduating students then left the cathedral to take photographs and celebrate their success.

Dewi Vanblarcum, an international student originally from the Netherlands, who has also studied various different degrees in Law, graduated today from Sparsholt University Centre with a Masters in Equine Performance and Training, where she achieved a Merit.

Dewi, 47, said: “I am very excited, it has been amazing studying here with all the various facilities and I hope to now enter the Equine industry.”

Sparsholt University Centre (SCU) offer a variety of different degrees specialising in animal health and welfare research, ranging from Wildlife Ecology and Conservation to Equestrian Performance Management.

Tom Gray, 23, originally from Southampton and graduated today with an Undergraduates degree in Ecology and Conservation, said: “It feels surreal to be graduating today, the last three years have gone so quickly with our first year being interrupted by COVID and our second year being primarily online learning!”

Maddie Egerton, 21, from Chichester, also graduated today with an Undergraduate degree in Zoology and Animal Biology, said: “It feels weird that we will no longer be going back into university – I can’t believe it’s over.”

All higher education students graduated today, alongside students studying a City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing, Diploma Level 5 in Education & Training and Diploma in the Management of Zoo Animals.
