A WATER company has once apologised for the 'distress' caused to residents after a water pipe burst for the second time in three days.

In the early hours of Sunday morning (July 10), the mains water supply pipe in Colden Common, near Winchester, burst.

It comes after an initial, identical incident involving the same pipe on Friday (July 8) which caused severe flooding and road damage.

Southern Water crews were on site quickly and water shut off by approximately 3.45am.

The company is providing temporary accommodation for anyone who chooses it during the repair and clean-up works, and also supporting businesses affected by the flooding.

The full extent of the damage is being investigated, but the majority of properties with flooding are in Francis Copse, with one in Spring Lane, and around nine properties in Vears Lane and two in Main Road are without water supply.

A Southern Water spokesperson said: “We are extremely sorry for the further distress and disruption caused by a water main in Main Road, Colden Common. Our customer team will be onsite all day to support customers affected.

“Our crews arrived quickly and the burst was stopped in about an hour. Our priority is to clean-up the homes flooded and support the residents as needed. With the repair on the burst starting today.

“The resurfacing repairs to Main Road - which could take about a week – will start as soon as we have materials. We apologise for the disruption to road users while this work is completed.”
