I REFER to the article in the Hampshire Chronicle last week relating to Peter Symonds sixth form college reunion when old Symondians met after 45 years.

I can go one better - in 1996 I teamed up with 'old boys' who were at the school in 1943, over 50 years later.

We were the wartime scholars and attended school in the mornings - the school was occupied by Portsmouth Grammar School for Boys in the afternoons.

We were also on a strict rota for fire-watching during nighttime and consequently had the following morning off school to catch up on lost sleep. Those were the days - wartime schooling.
