STAFF at an award-wining day nursery in Winchester spent a day in comfy clothes and enjoying sweet treats to celebrate National Employee Ownership Day.

The Maples Day Nursery, in Hatherley Road, celebrated the day on June 24 after record profit-sharing year for their company Childbase Partnership.

The Childbase Partnership is employee owned and consists of 45 day nurseries in the south of England.

The organisation was rated as the UK’s best large company to work for in 2020 and the second best for 2021 by 'best companies' who works to recognise and improve great workplace engagement.

Founder and chairman Mike Thompson has also been awarded best leader for the past two years.

The team swapped uniforms for comfy clothing, enjoyed sweet treats and took part in teamwork challenges and mindfulness activities to recognise National Employee Ownership Day and their own achievements.

Sian Murphy, manager, said: “After the challenges of the past couple of years, we have never been more committed to each other or the children and families in our care. As owners, every employee has a voice, a role in the decision-making process and a share of the profits, so we are all personally invested in giving our children the best possible nursery experience.”

Company wellbeing initiatives include the £500,000 Wonderland Festival in May, a pay rise in April, and tax-free payments based on company performance of up to £1,500 each.
