TRAFFIC was forced to a standstill on the M3 near Winchester due to a collision for the second time today.

Traffic was stopped on the M3 in both directions within junction 11 due to a collision this evening (July 1).

Emergency services were on scene and National Highways tweeted to confirm the traffic had been stopped to allow an air ambulance to land.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police, said:"Traffic was held in both directions for a while (about 20-25 mins) before being released first northbound then southbound with one lane still shut for the clear-up.

"It was three cars involved A BMW X1 a BMW 320D and a Porsche Boxster. Ambulance attended and one person (no details on gender) taken to hospital with a facial injury and the other person treated for shock.

"Both of those people were in the Porsche. The incident was fully cleared just after 10pm."

Earlier in the afternoon on July 1 police were called at 4.43pm to a report of a collision on the southbound carriageway of junction 11. The incident involved three vehicles in lane three. The lane was blocked while officers attended.

All lanes have now reoponed.

Hampshire Police and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for more information.
