FASHIONISTAS, bargain lovers and vintage fans came together as a huge vintage clothes sale came to the guildhall.

Second hand retailer, Worth The Weight, held a vintage kilo sale at Winchester Guildhall on Sunday, June 22.

The day was a success with nine tonnes of preloved clothes from the 1960s-1990s being sold for £20 a kilo.

Worth The Weight organises events in cities all over the UK for a sustainable, affordable way to get good quality vintage fabrics and second hand goods.

Organiser, Hattie Hofton, 29, said: “You don’t see this kind of quality anymore, especially not at a similar price point.

“It’s a really fun way of shopping too, you have to rifle through loads of shelves and find unique things you never expected.

“It’s like finding treasure."

With upbeat indie music playing in the background and hundreds of people sifting through the clothes together, Hattie reckons that these delightfully chaotic kilo sales have had their boom post Covid lockdowns as people realised how much they needed to socialise.

She said: “After the lockdowns, people really crave human interaction.

“Some people spend all day here trying on all the different outfits with their friends.”

There was a variety of ages and generations rummaging through the clothes and people came from all over Hampshire to attend.

Elizabeth Lambert, 20, Micheldever, said: “I love how these events encourage people to shop second hand and how unique all the styles are.”

Sustainability seems to be the main driver behind many people’s interest in thrift shopping over the last few years.

Ana Truesdale, 23, from Romsey, said: “Kilo sales are pioneering against fast fashion.

“It’s trendy to come to places like this.”

Worth the Weight kilo kilo sales will be coming back to the south on Saturday, July 23 at Bournemouth Pavilion.
