Winchester Cathedral's peregrine chicks have been given names by the young choristers.

The chicks, who hatched in April, are the brood of Winnie and William, the later being named after William Walker, the English diver famous for shoring up the southern and eastern sides of Winchester Cathedral.

They started to fly at the start of June and have been monitored by Keith Betton, chairman of Hampshire Ornithological Society.

The choristers were given a choice of three names for each chick. For the male, they were: Louis, Charles and George. For the female, they were: Elizabeth, Emma and Cecilia.

They chose George for the male and Elizabeth for the female.

As George and Elizabeth grow in size and confidence, they can be seen flying around the north side perimeter of the Cathedral, following Winnie and William collecting food.
