Councillors have submitted an objection to an extension described as 'the worst' they have seen.

The plan, for two-storey extensions to form additional living accommodation, was submitted by Dr Yan Li for a house in Malmesbury Road, Romsey.

Romsey Town Council's planning committee didn't like it as they thought it was overbearing and out of keeping with the street scene.

A neighbour to the site, Emily Hamblin, submitted an objection on Test Valley Borough Council's planning portal.

Miss Hamblin said: “The two-storey rear extension creates an overbearing mass that will block daylight to others on Malmesbury Road. The 45 degree rule to consider right to light and daylight factors from neighbouring first floor windows has not been followed with this design.”

Cllr Mark Cooper said: “This is probably the worst extension I have seen in 36 years of being on planning committees. The neighbour has a narrow, triangular garden and this is a huge two-storey extension on on the boundary.

“The extension is asymmetrical so it follows the boundary line, not the house line. It's out of keeping with the other dwelling in Malmesbury Road. It is in congress of the street scene.”

Chairman Cllr Sally Lamb agreed and put forward an objection.

The plan will now go to Test Valley Borough Council for a decision.
