A NEW theatre production company in Winchester is preparing to take a show to the Edinburgh Fringe this August.

Plant Unltd Productions will be presenting Hotel Elsinore.

Susanna Hamnett, from the company, said: “We are a new production company who also happen to be a Winchester-based family of artists/actors - mother, and adult son and daughter. We moved to Winchester from Toronto during lockdown and have been creating a new play together which we are taking to the Edinburgh Fringe this August and also presenting as a preview/fundraiser at St John's Church in July.

“I performed my solo show Nearly Lear there in the church twelve years ago as part of a world tour that included a wide array of venues in the UK as well as Broadway and the Sydney Opera House. My children were then 13 and 9 and were on this five-month tour as home-schooled stage hands! And now they are creating and acting with me in this new play, Hotel Elsinore.”

The show is about families and was created during lockdown. It is set in the liminal and claustrophobic confines of a hotel room where the family is thrust into facing their unresolved issues. Shakespeare’s Hamlet as the pivot around which the family’s story revolves.

Susanna and her children Joshua MacGregor, and Lily MacGregor star in the show.

The fundraiser at St John's Church is on July 9, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets on the door, cash only. It costs £15 and £10 for concessions.
