A CONVOY of military vehicles will travel across part of Hampshire as part of official Armed Forces Day celebrations.

Armed Forces Day, which falls on Saturday, June 25 is designed to give people the chance to show their support to the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community.

Two motorcycle outriders will travel five minutes ahead of the convoy, while a Ford Ranger safety vehicle will lead the sixty-vehicle convoy, which will travel through Basingstoke.

The military vehicles will depart from Southwick P017 6EJ at 10am in the morning on Saturday (June 25). The Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire will preside at the official start event.

From Southwick the convoy will travel via the B2177 to Wickham where it will exit on to the A32 at approximately 10.10am.

The convoy will travel along the A32 through Droxford, Corhampton, and Warnford, to arrive in West Meon at approximately 10.25am. From West Meon, the journey continues to Privett, East Tisted and Farringdon to arrive at the A31 (Alton) at approximately 10.45am.

Via The Butts in Alton and exiting via the Basingstoke Road the convoy will use the B3349 to travel to Lasham Airfield GU34 5SS arriving at approximately 11am. The convoy will have a stop over and it will then depart at 11.40am on the A339 for Basingstoke Leisure Park RG22 6PG for a noon arrival.

The lead vehicle will also be followed by two dodge command cars, from which salutes will be given. Salutes will be acknowledged by dignitaries at Wickham, West Meon, and Alton.

A coach carrying veterans and guests will drive behind the command cars.

At the rear of the convoy a contingent of Falklands veterans will be riding as members of the Royal British Legion Riders branch.

For safety reasons, public viewing and parking areas are being made available at the George and Falcon (Warnford), the Angel Hotel (Privett) and the Golden Pheasant (Farringdon).

It is hoped to have a convoy tracking app available, which will be announced on the official Facebook page on Friday (June 24).

Subject to prevailing weather conditions, professional CAA drone filming will take place at Wickham, Alton and Basingstoke.

The event is free and has been organised by Royal British Legion volunteers to coincide with Falklands 40th and the Queens Platinum Jubilee Year.
