POLICE are investigating after a man in his 80s was left bleeding after being bitten by a stranger's dog in a pub.

A man was walking through The Black Dog pub when a dog "jumped up and bit his arm".

The attack at the watering hole in Winchester Road, Waltham Chase, left the elderly man bleeding and with a deep bruise.

A witness said: "I was out for lunch for Father's Day, and there were some other customers with two dogs.

"One of the dogs jumped up at somebody passing by. They should have taken the dog out then. The whole thing could have been avoided.

"Twenty minutes later, one of their dogs jumped up and bit a man.

"If there had been a small child walking by, that could have been more serious."

He added that the man was taken to Winchester A&E after the dog bite.

Hampshire police have since said they are investigating the incident.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We’re investigating after we were called at 4.09pm on Sunday to a report that a man had been bitten by a dog in The Black Dog, Winchester Road, Waltham Chase.

"It was reported that at approximately 1.30pm, a man in his 80s was walking through the pub and when he passed a group of people with two lurchers.

"One of the lurchers lunged at the man and bit him.

"The man sustained a bruise to his leg and puncture wounds to his arm causing it to bleed."

Police say anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information but hasn’t yet spoken to them should call 101, quoting reference number 44220243834.
