BUSINESSES in Winchester are ready to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee as they decorate shop windows with bunting, cardboard cut outs and banners.

Shops, pubs and businesses such as Closs & Hamblin, The Eclipse Inn and chocolate makers, Montezuma's have decorated windows, archways and the inside of their business to show support for the Queen, as she marks 70 years on the throne.

The Chronicle recently spoke to a number of businesses on the High Street. Here is what they had to say:

Naomi House & Jacksplace

Assistant manager Suzie Lemon said: "We're very proud of our display. We try and shake it up so people have something new to look at as they walk past. People want to be involved in it."

Store manager Julie Pither said: "We have a competition set by our head office for the best Jubilee window. Our customers love the royalty and the traditional side of things, so the products we have fit well, with our gifts, plates, banners and knitting."

Pub manager Terri Line said: "I love it. It's nice to be a part of something and while not much is planned in Winchester for the Jubilee, it's nice that we can do something. Everyone comments and says how much we stand out."

Store manager Ab Khatum said: "We've kept our display traditional but has our own spin on it. It has a punk rock, Brit Pop vibe which is very British and shows how big and bold we are. It's part of our history, so what better way to say that than through our chocolate and our packaging."

Pub manager Daniella Guthrie It's really lovely seeing businesses in Winchester getting involved. Winchester is a community getting together to celebrate our lovely queen."

Store manager Mandy McCartney said: "It's nice to join in and everyone seems to be doing the same. It's something nice to celebrate."

Cabinet Rooms

Owner Gary Whiter said: "A local art teacher at the Westgate school did a competition for the Jubilee best art, and while they're closed for half term, we thought it would be nice to have the art on display."
