Lots of events are taking place this weekend as part of the celebrations for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
In Winchester, there will be 49 road closures for street parties and events.
Winchester City Council has awarded grants to enable a dozen community jubilee events to happen, spanning from Micheldever in the north of the district to Wickham in the south.
The district is also paying homage to the Queen’s longstanding service by planting trees and flowers. The council is supplying The Queens Green Canopy plaques to mark the planting of trees in 24 parishes, 48 city council housing sites and 27 council-maintained open spaces over the next couple of weeks. Passers-by will, from next week, also be able to spot a special Platinum Jubilee planting display at the Bar End roundabout.
Cllr Paula Ferguson, city council Cabinet Member for Community and Housing said: “There is a great sense of community right across our district and it is lovely to see such a large number of street parties, tree planting ceremonies and community events taking place this weekend in the villages, market towns and the city.
“Our district is bursting with opportunities to celebrate - Winchester Cathedral and Theatre Royal Winchester are marking the event in style with special celebration events, and families are spoilt for days out across the whole half term week – our Visit Winchester website has all the details. We hope that all of our residents enjoy their festivities as they celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and give thanks for her remarkable service to the country over the last 70 years.”
