AN INDOOR play area for toddlers is coming to Winchester, opening in the Brooks Shopping Centre and adding more jobs to the city.

Tot City announced this week that it is getting ready to open its second play area in Hampshire at the centre towards the end of July.

The business, which already has a successful role play centre in Andover, plans to have with four to five rooms for the tots to explore and make new friends.

The indoor play area will be coming to The Brooks Shopping Centre, where it is currently being renovated in the former women's sportswear shop, The Body Solution Wear.

Tot City manager, Leon Li said: "I'm very excited to come to Winchester. It's a lovely town with beautiful history and it has a lot of families with children, so it's a great place to be.

"It has been hard to acquire a unit in Winchester, which is why there aren't any soft play areas, however now the time is right and we're very excited to come to Winchester. It's a great place to be."

While management are adding the finishing touches, Leon is confident it will feature the most popular role play areas from Andover, from a supermarket, a hospital and a police station.

Leon, 51, said: "We work very closely with parents. They feel very relaxed and chilled when they come here. They don't need to run around chasing their children all day, so it's great for everyone.

"Most parents have a long day. We're also very popular for grandparents and child minders. They come here, relax and have a cup of coffee while their children play. They don't need to worry about where the children have ventured off to because it's all enclosed and a safe environment for them to explore and run around."

Tot City is the latest experience-led business to announce its intended opening in The Brooks.

Hampshire Cultural Trust has a planning application in to open a virtual reality exhibition, Vietnamese street food business Marse opened last month and there a new gym is rumoured to be eyeing up another unit.
