WINCHESTER'S new council leader says the authority is pressing on with the temporary revamp of the Kings Walk area.
This week the removal of a brick wall outside the arcade on Middle Brook Street has been completed. It had been a hang-out for street drinkers and focus of anti-social behaviour.
Cllr Martin Tod told the Cabinet meeting today in the Guildhall: "The work to replace the wall with fencing has been completed and extra planters will be installed. I stress this is a temporary interim solution."
He said more permanent proposals are currently being worked up with architects, to include Kings Walk and the courtyard in conjunction with tenants of the arcade.
The city council has come under fire this year for announcing the eviction of two shop tenants, Sukee Market and Sunflowers Emporium from the arcade because they are not artistic enough.
