YOUNGSTERS, skaters and BMXers have been enjoying a new skate park in Winchester.

Work started on the new facility at King George V Playing Field in Bar End on March 14.

The project was completed by KGV, on behalf of Winchester City Council, and was finished last week. It replaced a skate park on the site that was out of date.

Families, youngsters and keen skaters have been making the most of the facility, which was designed by skate company Maverick.

Ruben Hugo, from Winchester, was there on his scooter with his mum after school on Monday.

Ruben, eight, said: "It’s nice and definitely a lot better than the other one.

“I’ve also learnt to drop in because it’s not so high.”

The skate park is the third in the city, with other facilities at River Park and Stanmore Recreation Ground.

Council leader Martin Tod said: "It is really important that all different parts of our community have leisure facilities that they enjoy using and that work for them. This new park is part of the council providing that.
