BY now the dust and the hangovers will have settled on Winchester City's fantastic playoff final win over Bristol Manor Farm, which attracted over 1,000 people to the Charters Community Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday (Chronicle, May 5).
The result is the result of years of hard work from chairmen Paul Murray, Eliott Trodd and Ken Raisbeck, as well as manager Craig Davis, who has had the club challenging for promotion since the end of his first full season, which has also seen a record-equalling FA Cup run in the autumn of 2018. Since missing out on fifth to Cinderford on the final day of the 2018-19 season, Winchester City have been fourth in the league at the conclusion of the last three seasons, and have finally achieved their reward in the form of a place in the Southern Premier for next season.
Hopefully, many of the locals who were newcomers there on Monday will start coming down regularly, as the prices are considerably lower than those at Southampton, you can take your pint outside, and there's no VAR either.
