More than three weeks of overnight road closures are set to start on a main city route.

Hampshire County Council will be partially closing a section of Easton Lane for resurfacing works from the beginning of next week.

The well-used road will be blocked off from Tesco’s Roundabout to the junction with Ebden Road between 8pm and 6am from Monday, May 23 to Friday, June 17. It will remain open as normal outside of these hours and at weekends.

This work is part of Operation Resilience, Hampshire County Council’s programme to make Hampshire’s roads more resilient to the effects of extreme weather and heavy traffic.

A council spokesperson said: "Pedestrian access will be available at all times and while there is an allowance within the time periods for delays, there may be times when works must be postponed at very short notice, based on the latest weather forecasts.

"This can occur just prior to works commencing. Up-to-date information will always be provided where possible.

"For the safety of residents and that of our workforce, we are unable to guarantee vehicle access to and from your property if you are within the road closure zone while the work takes place.

"Any vehicles left parked on the road may be removed. If you need to make an essential journey, please contact a member of the on-site workforce in advance, who will do their best to help with your request."
