FIREFIGHTERS scrambled to a bin fire at a block of flats in Winchester last night (Saturday, May 14).
At 10.32pm, Alresford and St Mary’s crews were called to a bin fire within a ground-floor bin store at a block of flats on Woolford Close.
The fire was extinguished using one hose reel jet before ventilation fans were used to clear smoke.
Crews completed Safe and Well visits before leaving the scene at 11.23pm.
Posting on a community Facebook group, residents suggested that a deposited disposable BBQ could have been the cause of the blaze, but Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has not been able to confirm this.
