Residents and staff at St Cross Grange, a Greensleeves Care home in Winchester, will be transferring to a brand-new building in Giles Hill.

St Giles View, which will open in the autumn, will be operated by Brendoncare.

St Cross Grange was built more than 150 years ago, with a history of providing social support and care to older people in Winchester since the 1930s, as well as housing soldiers during WWII.

The future of St Cross Grange is unclear with a spokesman saying they ‘are working with advisors to explore options for the home, so no set plans as of yet’.

While the stunning building benefits from this rich history, many care home residents are increasingly in need of more accessible and modern facilities and so the decision has been made to move to a new, purpose-built setting.

The residents and staff who currently live and work at St Cross Grange will be given the opportunity to transfer to St Giles View, where they will benefit from 60 purpose built en-suite bedrooms, as well as a cafe/restaurant, hair and beauty salon and communal spaces.

Paul Newman, chief executive of Greensleeves Care, said: “Safeguarding the future for our residents and colleagues is the priority. As like-minded care charities, working with Winchester-based care charity, Brendoncare, was a natural next step. The new home, St Giles View, will be finished to the highest specification and we will work closely with Brendoncare to ensure a smooth transition.”

Marianne Wanstall, chief executive of Brendoncare, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming residents and colleagues from St Cross Grange to the Brendoncare family. Like Greensleeves Care, Brendoncare puts residents at the heart of everything we do, and we are looking forward to working together to ensure a seamless transition when our new home opens this autumn.”
