BUDDING stage stars are being sought to take part in this year's pantomime.

The Theatre Royal Winchester is looking for support cast members for Wizard of Oz

Arts and education charity Play to the Crowd will be putting on the production this Christmas, which will run from Sunday, December 3 to Monday, January 2.

Local performers are being given the opportunity to take part in the production as supporting cast members.

A spokeswoman fro the theatre said: "All those interested in auditioning to be in the support cast will have dance experience and be keen on acting and singing. It is ideal for anyone looking to broaden their performance and industry experience whilst working with established professionals."

The Wizard of Oz will be brought to Winchester by Great British Panto Award-nominees Lames Barry and Simon Slater, the creative team behind many Theatre Royal Winchester pantomimes.

The much-loved yearly tradition will be packed with original songs, corny jokes, and audience participation.

Tickets go on sale from Tuesday, May 10 and can be booked at theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or by calling 01962 840440.

Participants must be over the age of 16 by August 31. The rehearsal period will take place in the Autumn, and applicants must ensure they are available for this as well as the performance dates throughout December 2022 and January 2023.

Support cast members will be divided into two teams and split the 52 performances between them. The closing date for applications is Sunday, May 22, and auditions will be held on Sunday, June 12 at Theatre Royal Winchester.
