A WINCHESTER theatre group has raised more than £2,000 at a fundraising show for the Ukraine.

The Musical Theatre Group from Winchester Theatre Arts gave a special performance at the Rose Theatre in Eastleigh.

The event was a tremendous success, not only financially, but for the audience who were treated to a spectacular evening of songs and dances from some of the most popular musicals.

As a result £2,313.00, the full amount raised from every seat sold, will be send to Ukraine.

Reviewer Jo Griffiths said: "I always look forward to the Musical Theatre Group (MTG) performances as I know they are of the highest standard. I wasn’t disappointed on Sunday April 10, the hard work and relentless rehearsals clearly showed through.

"My personal favourites were ‘Coffee in a cardboard cup’ from 70 Girls 70, ‘The Greatest Showman’ from the same name and ‘Cellblock Tango’ from Chicago. For me, these three numbers raised the bar. In fact, I could have immediately sat through the entire evening all over again! The professionalism shone out from the performers and they, along with the staff at Winchester Theatre Arts, should be incredibly proud. I can easily see why some of those young people choose to follow their passion into a musical theatre career. What’s more, WTA took the decision to donate all proceeds to the Ukrainian effort, which is such a worthwhile cause. Well done again to all those involved, you truly are inspirational."

Winchester Theatre Arts is Kings Worthy-based offering stage opportunities in dancing, singing and acting to youngsters aged three years to 18.
