The owners of an Edwardian Romsey B&B have launched a bespoke lunch and dinner service for special occasions.

Graham and Kay Choules, who run the Palmerston Rooms in Palmerston Street, are opening their dining space up for family get-togethers, parties, wakes, business meals and even small wedding receptions.

The historic building, which boasts eight individually refurbished bedrooms, can seat between 20-30 diners in the “light and airy” downstairs eating area, which can also be extended into a marquee in the courtyard garden if needed.

The move presents a natural progression for Graham, who was formerly a chef in the hospitality industry for large parts of his career.

He worked for the Potters Heron in nearby Ampfield for many years before moving to the Grosvenor Hotel in Stockbridge as head chef.

Graham later changed tack a little into butchery, working at the long-established John Robinson's Butchers, also in Stockbridge, where he was involved in outside catering, even cooking for the Queen and Prince Phillip during their visit to the Bishops Palace in Winchester.

He said: “Kay and I really enjoy welcoming groups into the house for a special get-together and offering them great hospitality. So far those that have had lunch or dinner here have gone away having had a really special time.

“I enjoy producing quality food using as many seasonal, local ingredients as possible. This year we bought a marquee that we can put in the courtyard garden to provide extra space. As well as occasions for family and friends we can offer local businesses a great space for company get-togethers, which could be so important for bringing teams together or entertaining clients.”

The Palmerston Rooms is licensed, so visitors can enjoy a tipple while enjoying a range of meat and meat-free dishes as well as options for special diets

For those that want to make a night of it in one of the eight bedrooms, a full English breakfast or lighter option is also included with the stay. All rooms have WiFi, flat screen TVs and en-suites.

The Palmerston Rooms is central to the main part of the town, which has plenty of shops, cafes, garden spaces and the 900-year-old Abbey.
