A NEW multi-terrain 10k run and community fete is being held to raise money for a village school.

Compton and Shawford Pre-school and Compton School Association is organising the event on May 22.

The run will wind its way along a scenic course, taking in views across Compton Down and the countryside of southern Winchester, and the event organisers have arranged for the run to be chip-timed.

Speaking on behalf of Compton and Shawford Pre-school, chair Nicola Webster said: “The pre-school was unable to hold events for almost two years, and fundraising is vital due to the shortfall in funding. The pre-school has been part of the community for over 40 years, yet we’re often described as a hidden gem. This is a brilliant opportunity for us to come out of hiding!”

Anne Robbins, chair of Compton School Association, said: “It’s wonderful to be able to hold a summer fete this year, and the school community are looking forward to welcoming everyone. The money raised will go towards outdoor resources and IT upgrades”.

The 10k will start on Compton Street at 10.30am, and finish in the church field where runners will receive a wooden medal. The fete will be from 11am until 2pm.
