MP Steve Brine welcomed a lively group of Year 6 children from Itchen Abbas Primary School to the Houses of Parliament.

The children, and staff, received a tour of the Palace of Westminster with the Education service, before meeting up with their MP for a lively Q&A session over lunch with a trip via the terrace for a photo by the River Thames.

Mr Brine told them about his role as an MP in the Commons and his job as a constituency MP, and was especially able to highlight the importance of the casework he carries out.

Itchen Abbas teacher Rob Bogan said; "The children and adults had the best day ever. We had an amazing tour and got to find out more about how Parliament is run. The children loved meeting our local MP Steve Brine and it truly was a once in a lifetime experience."

Mr Brine said: “It was so much fun to have Itchen Abbas in the House and the perfect group to re-start what is one of the best parts of my role. The parliament visit is really valuable and I hope they’ll be the first of many going forward.”

Itchen Abbas was the first Winchester school group to visit the Houses of Parliament following the pandemic, with the local MP using Zoom to speak to local schools and give them virtual tours of the House of Commons.
