Winchester Cathedral's Christmas Market is to return this year, again without its ice rink.

Last year, the cathedral replaced its popular ice rink with a performance stage for buskers and local groups.

That will be returning along with the lantern parade on November 18 which will form part of the market's opening ceremony.

The market will take place between November 18 and December 22.

As in previous years, exhibitors have been selected to trade at Winchester Cathedral’s Christmas Market. Applications to trade at this year’s Christmas market are now open and will close on April 10.

Each year Winchester Cathedral hosts a chalet that is dedicated to different charities. Rotating throughout the duration of the Christmas market, this chalet allows charities to promote their causes to the hundreds of visitors that attend. Last year, over 20 different charities made use of the chalet, from Winchester Hospice to Guide Dogs for the blind. Applications for the charity chalet will open soon.

Oly Hillier-Rundle, owner of Wolf Academy who exhibited at the 2021 Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market said, “We had the most incredible time trading at Winchester Cathedral's Christmas Market. The twinkling lights, Christmas carols and beautiful Cathedral - what a way to enjoy the lead up to Christmas! We met so many lovely customers who were really pleased to be shopping small and supporting independent businesses, and we really enjoyed shopping from the other chalets ourselves when we got the chance. There was a real sense of community amongst all of the traders and staff, which created such an upbeat and friendly atmosphere - it was a joy to be a part of.”

Around 118 chalets will line the ancient cathedral walls, with exhibitors selling a range of seasonal gifts, food and drink. The proposed site will be similar to last year, which saw the introduction of a larger food court and a community stage that hosted a variety of free performances throughout.
