EIGHT food businesses in Winchester have been given new hygiene ratings by the Food Standards Agency.

The agency, which is responsible for food safety and food hygiene in England, gave all eight a score of four and above, meaning standards are "good" and "very good".

The following ratings have been given to four restaurants, cafes or canteens:

• Rated 5: The South Downs Social at 3 - 4 Kings Walk, Winchester, rated on March 18

• Rated 5: Bangkok Bistro at 33 Jewry Street, Winchester, Hampshire; rated on March 15

• Rated 5: Carroll Centre at Carroll Youth Centre, Somers Close, Winchester; rated on March 14

• Rated 5: The Paolita, a private address registered with Winchester City Council at GU32; rated on March 23

Pubs, bars and nightclubs

And two ratings have been handed to pubs, bars or nightclubs:

• Rated 5: The Old Gaol House at 11 - 11a Jewry Street, Winchester; rated on March 16

• Rated 4: The White Horse Inn at South Hill, Droxford; rated on February 25
