WINCHESTER MP Steve Brine spoke to pupils on a visit to Kings’ School about his work and his parliamentary experience.

He was invited by a mixture of the school debate club and a new PMQs club which meets each Wednesday to assess the weekly event in the House of Commons.

Pupils also had the opportunity to question him, on subjects from social media to disinformation and Ukraine, MPs' pay as well as climate change.

Mr Brine said: “It was very interesting to visit Kings’ and hear where the students, and I am sure some of their teachers, are in their perception of the current political landscape and Parliament.

“I’m really thankful to the team for allowing me some time to give an insight into Westminster. Have to say I think the PMQs club is a brilliant idea and I hope other schools will copy.”

The MP also had the chance to catch up with headteacher Dr James Adams, whose tenure started just shortly before the first lockdown in March 2020.

Mr Brine added; “I’m glad I also had the chance to finally catch up with Dr Adams, after so many emails exchanged in the past two years. He, like so many heads, was able to update me on the issues students and staff are facing as we move away from Covid. I really look forward to working with him going forwards.”
