FIRE crews were called to a prison in Hampshire after a small blaze started.

Crews from St Mary’s and Eastleigh were called to HMP Winchester at 12.50pm on Tuesday, March 8.

A spokesman from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue said the fire had been put out by staff prior to the crews arrival.

The crew from Winchester were already deployed rescuing a horse stuck in a ditch in a field in New Road, Hardley, at the same time.

The horse was sedated and extricated. It was left in the care of the owner and vet.
