A date for the thanksgiving service of a former Mayor of Winchester has been set.
Dougie Covill MBE DCM was the mayor in 1987-88 and died on November 15.
As a Conservative, he served on the city council in the 1980s and 1990s, retiring in 1996, and lived at Ladycroft, near Alresford.
At a recent full meeting of the city council, deputy mayor Cllr Derek Green said: “He very sadly passed away, the day after his 101st birthday. Arrangements for the service of thanksgiving to celebrate Mr Covill's life has now been confirmed and will take place at Tidworth, Aliwal Barracks, on April 27 at 12pm.
“Tidworth is the home of Mr Covill's regiment The Royal King's Hussars.”
The council meeting stood for a moment's silence in tribute to his memory and that of Lord Chidgey who died on February 15.
