Trees on a city centre road have been cleared after it was closed last week.

Barfield Close in Winchester was closed for five days so that trees affected by ash dieback disease could be cleared.

Ivan Gurdler, principal tree officer at Winchester City Council, said the work was necessary to make the area safe.

Before the work started, a council spokesperson said that a survey had shown a number of Ash and Sycamore trees were a safety concern.

The reopening of the road means that the park and ride service will continue on its regular route for passengers at the Barfield Close stop.
