A new running event is coming to Winchester later this year.

The new course, called the Winchester Hilly 10k, will take place alongside the popular half-marathon.

It will be on September 25 with the 10k runners initially following the half marathon route before peeling off and encountering the rest of Winchester’s historical landmarks, scenery and hills. Together the two distances and the Fun Run will create the new Winchester Marafun event.

The Winchester Hilly 10k is the creation of Hampshire based sport event management business, ReesLeisure, which has been organising running events in Winchester since 2016.

The event will bring more runners, businesses and charities to Winchester, encouraging a fun day out for friends and family. The event charity sponsorships are national charity, Macmillan and local charity, Naomi’s House.

Chris Rees, director of ReesLeisure, said: “The Winchester Hilly 10k distance is designed to encourage all runners from a variety of ages and abilities to take part in a fun event in an historic and beautiful setting.

“Winchester has always been a successful venue for our previous events, and we know runners love coming here hence why we have provided participants with more options to get active.”
