A Winchester-born royal commentator is taking part in a virtual event to raise money for an Armed Forces charity.

Friday Night In is taking place on February 25 with Sky News royal commentator General Alastair Bruce, along with BBC broadcasters Gabby Logan and Michael Buerk.

Guests who register for this event will not only enjoy the trio’s sparkling conversation with veteran TV presenter Simon McCoy, but also help raise money for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, from the comfort of their own homes.

In an evening packed with entertainment there’s also music from the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, as well as opportunities to bid on prizes, including signed books from Bernard Cornwell, Dame Joanna Lumley and Dame Judi Dench.

Winchester’s General Alastair Bruce, who became the highest-ranking Army officer to have a same-sex wedding in 2021, will share a key lesson he learnt from the Army; renowned BBC journalist Michael Buerk will recall his time covering the Ethiopian famine, which inspired the first global Live Aid concert; and BBC sports presenter Gabby Logan will share stories of top sports stars, plus memories of the 2012 Olympics.

Friday Night In was launched in 2021, when many in-person events of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity were cancelled due to Covid. The first Friday Night In event in March 2021 attracted supporters from across the UK and beyond and raised more than £23,000 for the Army’s national charity.

Amanda, who attended last year’s event said: “We got the whole family together last year and had a great time trying to make the winning bid on some great prizes; we’ll definitely be attending this year.”

Registration is £20 per household and you can sign up at: soldierscharity.org/events/friday-night-in/.
