This week we asked what shop or restaurant you would like to see opened in the city, and we were inundated with replies.

Requests spanned from record shops and antique stores to local eateries and even a fishmonger.

But one thing which was glaringly obvious is that another coffee shop was certainly not in high up on anyone’s agenda.

However, plenty of people did call for more independent outlets to fill the void in the high street.

So, in response to your comments we've sifted through the requests to find the shops and restaurants that have come out as the city's most desired, and we've listed them below.

Wilko

The home and hardware store topped a lot of your lists and was comfortably one of the frontrunners for Winchester’s most wanted.

The Range

Not a million miles away from Wilko, The Range was also among your most requested stores, with many people clearly yearning for variety in their shopping experience.

B&M

Everybody loves a bargain, and it seems the people of Winchester are no different.

B&M featured heavily in the replies to our post, with outlets which offer a broad selection again proving king.

John Lewis

With Debenhams still sitting vacant in the high street, John Lewis could be on of the few singular businesses large enough to fill its sizeable boots, and the department store was suggested by you as a possible suiter.

IKEA

A trip to IKEA often feels more like a day out rather than a trudge around the shops, and it seems Winchester residents would welcome the Scandinavian outlet to the city.

Again, it could be one of the few businesses big enough to occupy what once was Debenhams.

Home Bargains

The theme of variety for a reasonable price has been clear throughout a lot of your requests, and in a similar mould to B&M, Home Bargains would certainly bring both of those attributes to the city.

A butcher or a fishmonger

With many national and global supermarket chains making it hard for independent sellers to compete, it is comforting to see many of you would still like to shop local and support local produce.

Despite only one comment asking for either a butcher or a fishmonger, the request received the support of four people in way of the trademark ‘like’.

A Greasy Spoon Café

Winchester has plenty of fine eateries and coffee shops to choose from, but some days nothing but a good old greasy fry up will suffice – especially in the cold winter months.

Again, the suggestion of a greasy spoon café received the backing of four people.

Honourable mentions

Zara; Lush; Nandos; Model World; Woolworths; A record shop; Sports Direct; Pilot.
