A DRIVER has been fined for speeding on a main road through a village near Alresford.
Carolyn McGregor, 53, was clocked driving at 50mph in the 30-zone on the A272 at New Cheriton on May 5 last year, a court heard.
McGregor, of Wootton, Woodstock, Oxfordshire, was in an 18-reg VW Polo and admitted the charge.
Basingstoke Magistrates Court fined her £145 with £90 costs and a £34 victim surcharge and ordered that six penalty points be added to her licence.
The A272 has long been subject to a campaign by villagers to reduce traffic speeds with the limit of 30mph limit introduced in recent years in Bramdean and New Cheriton. Local people are also campaigning over speeding and noisy motorbikes, particularly troublesome in the spring and summer months.
The Chronicle recently reported on the police and crime commissioner investing six-figure sum on speed cameras on the A272 and A32.
