BARTON Peveril Sixth Form College welcomed pupils from Winchester College, for its inaugural economics symposium last month.
Students from both Colleges worked together in teams to create a policy based on the question ‘What should the British Government do to reduce income inequality?’ before then sharing and debating their policies with one another.
The economics symposium was designed to help the students involved explore their subject beyond the curriculum whilst also gaining an insight into the life of those from different backgrounds.

Speaking on the symposium, Michael Marcas from Winchester College said: “The last few years have demonstrated the need for us all to be literate in perspectives other than our own. The policymaking collaboration between Winchester College and Barton Peveril students has young people of different backgrounds and different perspectives working together to find solutions to an important issue of our time.

“The goal of this collaborative exercise is primarily for the students appreciate each other's viewpoints through well-meaning, civil political discourse; and to reach a better, mutual, understanding of the issues being researched.”
Barton Peveril teacher of economics and lead on the event Daria Brovina, said: “Winchester College is a great partner for collaboration and we are very happy to be running this Economics Policymaking competition in joined teams. We hope that this will be the start of a long and fruitful partnership between our two wonderful colleges.”
